Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the expansion of international sanctions against Russia over Moscow's unprovoked invasion of his country in 2022.

Zelensky made this call on April 25, as he met in Kiev with British Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt, with whom he discussed the situation in Ukraine and the need to make it more difficult to avoid the sanctions imposed on Russia.

"We paid special attention to the sanctions policy," Zelensky wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"It is important to expand the restrictive measures against Russia and make it impossible to avoid the sanctions," he added.

Zelensky thanked Britain for the new military aid package presented earlier in the week by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The $622 million package - the largest Britain has ever given to Ukraine - was announced by Sunak during his visit to Poland on April 23, making the overall military aid that London has promised Kiev during this year to reach 3.71 billion dollars.

Britain, one of Ukraine's key allies, also said it will send the largest military package to Kiev.

British Minister Hunt, during his visit to Ukraine, also met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, with whom he discussed the content of the military aid package, which includes air defense systems, so that Ukraine can better protect cities from attacks Russian Airline.

Hunt's visit to Ukraine comes shortly after US President Joe Biden on April 24 signed a $61 billion military aid package to Kiev.

According to the American president, the necessary aid, including air defense systems, will be sent within hours./ REL
