Nine dead and eleven missing is the so far balance of the storm that has engulfed Turkey over the past two days.

Reuters reports that Turkish rescue teams are searching for 11 crew members missing from a cargo ship that sank off the Black Sea coast amid storms that killed at least nine people, including one on board.

The Turkish-flagged ship "Kafkametler", with 12 crew members on board, has sunk off the coast of Eregli in the Zonguldak province of northwestern Turkey, and the body of a crew member has been recovered," Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said .

The ship's captain had reported on Sunday morning that the ship was moving towards a buoy in Eregli and Yerlikaya. The ship is believed to have struck the structure after this announcement.

The region was hit by powerful storms on Sunday, and bad weather prevented naval vessels and the air force from conducting searches until Monday morning.

Minister Yerlikaya told reporters that storms and floods across Turkey over the weekend had resulted in the deaths of four people in the southeastern province of Batman, three people in Zonguldak and another person in Diyarbakir, also in the southeast./ CNA
