The EU invites Kurti and Vucic to a meeting

The European Union has invited the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, for a meeting in Brussels in an effort to find a solution to the situation in northern Kosovo that European officials have described as the most dangerous since 2013.

EU spokesman Peter Stani did not say when the meeting might take place, but expressed the hope that it should happen "very, very soon" and that his aim is "to find a European solution".

Aktualisht zyrtarët evropianë janë duke zhvilluar diskutime të dendura me të dyja palët për tejkalimin e situatës në veriun e Kosovës ku përfaqësuesit e serbëve braktisën institucionet e vendit, pasi autoritetet e Kosovës filluan me një nëntor zbatimin shkallë-shkallë të vendimit për konvertimin e targave të makinave të lëshuara nga Serbia. Vendimi i qeverisë së Kosovës u mor me gjithë thirrjet e Shteteve të Bashkuara dhe BE-së për një shtyrje dhjetë muajshe.

Sipas vendimit të qeverisë nga 21 nëntori fillon periudha e gjobitjes së atyre që nuk i kanë konvertuar targat e makinave, ndërsa përfaqësuesit e serbëve në veri kanë paralajmëruar rezistencë në rast të shqiptimit të gjobave.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said on Friday during a visit to Estonia that in the following days it will be seen whether the new negotiations will succeed.

In a joint conference with the Estonian Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, he said that Belgrade has ordered all Serbs in the north of Kosovo to resign from the institutions.

"We are doing our best to preserve the legality and constitutionality of our country on the one hand, and peace and security on the other hand. I am optimistic, but Belgrade's approach has been quite destructive, and in the coming days we will see how successful we will be in these new negotiations", said Prime Minister Kurti./VOA
