The tourism boom continued even in the fifth month of this year, as more than 973 thousand foreigners entered the territory of our country.

In total, in January-May, the number of foreigners registered over 3.3 million or 38.2% more than the same period of the previous year.

The Institute of Statistics published the movement of citizens, which shows that during the month of May 2024, 1,606,520 Albanian and foreign citizens entered the Albanian territory.

This indicator has increased by 30.6%, compared to May 2023. 1,615,862 Albanian citizens and foreigners have left the territory of the Republic of Albania, marking an increase of 30.8%, compared to the same period of a year ago.

"In May 2024, the number of Albanian citizens who entered the Albanian territory is 632,832, marking an increase of 20.5%, compared to May 2023. The number of foreign citizens who entered the Albanian territory is 973,688.

This number has increased by 38.1%, compared to the same period of 2023", states the publication of INSTAT.

According to the statistics in May 2024, compared to May 2023, the entries of foreign citizens marked: increase, for personal purposes by 37.9%; growth, for vacation purposes, visiting relatives, etc. with 45.0%; increase, for business and professional purposes by 48.3%.

The same estimates that in the month of May 2024, 662,095 Albanian citizens are counted to have left the territory of Albania, marking an increase of 23.9%, compared to May 2023.

"The exits of foreign citizens from the territory of Albania during the month of May 2024 are 953,767. Compared to the same period a year ago, this indicator has increased by 36.0%.

In May 2024, the region with the highest number of foreign nationals entering Albania is the region of Europe with 927,906 citizens, followed by America, East Asia and the Pacific, respectively with 24,191 and 8,219 citizens," INSTAT estimates.

Another historical record is expected in 2024

Local tour operators who work with organized tourism but also accommodation structures registered on platforms such as Booking or Air BNB report that the year 2024 has come with an increase in demand.

As far as tourists in organized groups are concerned, the groups of Poles and Czechs who have recorded the highest number of guarantee contracts stand out, while Italians and Spaniards are coming in all forms but again with increasing numbers.

Ksamili and Saranda seem to be at the top of the list this year as far as individual reservations are concerned, while Durrës and, to a lesser extent, Vlora are at the top of organized reservations.

This year is expected to record another historic year in terms of foreign visitors who last year exceeded 10.5 million./ Monitor Magazine
