Record prices/ Bank of Albania increases the interest rate by 0.5%

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, after today's meeting of the Supervisory Council, declared that inflation in our country will remain at high levels throughout 2022.

In a media conference, he stated that inflation is expected to start decreasing throughout 2023, but depending on the price situation in foreign markets.

He also informed that the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania decided to increase the basic interest rate by 0.5%.

“Rritja e çmimeve është e konsiderueshme në të gjitha produktet e shportës. Çmimet në tregjet botërore po rriten prej luftës në Ukrainë, bankat kanë rritur normat e interesit dhe pasiguria mbetet e lartë. Inflacioni do të kulmojë këtë 6 mujor të dytë. Ne do të normalizojmë politikën monetare, për të mbajtur nën kontroll inflacionin. Inflacioni do kthehet në objektiv në vitin 2024, por projeksionet janë në përditësim në varësi të situatës. Nivelet e larta të inflacionit janë rrziku kryesor për ekonominë e vendit. Për këtë arsye, në respektim të objektivit të stabilitetit të çmimeve, Këshilli Mbikëqyrës vendosi:

-të rrisë me 0. 5 pikë përqindjeje normën bazë të interesit, nga niveli 1.25% në nivelin 1.75%;

-të rrisë me 0.5 pikë përqindjeje normën e interesit të kredisë njëditore, nga niveli 2.25% në nivelin 2.75%;

- to increase the one-day deposit interest rate by 0.5 percentage points, from 0.25% to 0.75%. The Supervisory Council will carefully monitor the dynamics of inflationary pressures in the following period. He remains ready to intervene at the right time and with the right force to guarantee the stability of prices in the country", said Sejko." - said Sejko./ CNA.al
