Over 51% of Albanians have not made any trip to stay at least one night away from their home for personal vacation purposes, according to data published by Eurostat.
For Albania, information is available for 2021.
Albania ranks eighth in the list of countries whose citizens have the highest percentage of the population that does not take vacations.
In Europe, 72% of Bulgarians have not taken a vacation in 2022. Even Romanians are more or less at the same levels, with 71.8%. Next are the Italians with 59.3%, the Greeks with 56%, the Portuguese with 54.5%, the Estonians with 53.4%, the Croatians with 51.8%.
Those who travel the most outside the home are the Norwegians, where only 10.9% of the population do not go on holiday, followed by the Swedes with 17.8%.
While Albanians are not ranked first in Europe for the percentage of the population that does not go on vacation, they hold the record for the financial impossibility to spend at least one night outside the home.
Asked about the reasons, almost 70% of Albanians aged 15-64 claim that they do not go on vacation for financial reasons, the highest in Europe. 3.2% cited health reasons, 6.1% family reasons, while 16.8% because they were busy with work or studies.

Bulgarians, who were the first for the percentage of the population that does not go on vacation, seem to have no time to do so. 42.6% of them said that the reason is related to work or studies and 51.7% said that they did not have financial opportunities.
Romanians also cited reasons such as work and school (26.8%), or family issues (12.1%), while 54.2% did not move for financial reasons.
The Finns have the warmest pockets, with only 18.8% of them saying they don't have the financial means to travel outside the home.
Even for the age group over 65%, Albania holds the record for financial impossibility. 50% of seniors said they could not, while 38% cited health reasons. In contrast to other countries, the main reason that prevails is that of health.
Retirement is a period that many people in Europe use to travel outside the home, or visit the places you've always dreamed of. For example, Eurostat data shows that in Norway, only 17% of people over 65 have not taken a vacation in 2022.
In contrast, in Albania almost 72% of people over 65 do not take vacations outside the home. Among the highest in Europe. The record in Europe is again held by Bulgarians and Romanians with around 85-88%.

In Albania, the age group that travels the most is between 25-34 years old, where the weight of those who have not spent a night outside the home is 37.8%, the lowest of all other age groups. The group from 35-44 years old ranks after them, with 43.3%.
Young Albanians (15-24 years old) are among those who travel less, with 50.6% who have not spent a single night outside the home, compared to, for example, the Dutch and Norwegians who have the lowest share in Europe with 11.2%.
It seems that Albanians really want to travel and rest, but they don't have the opportunity to do so. While they are the first in Europe who do not have the financial means to spend at least one night away from home, only 3.7% of them said they have no interest in taking a vacation, the second lowest after Denmark, with 1.1%.
The Portuguese have the highest lack of interest in vacationing and traveling, with 64%, followed by the Swedes, with 58% and the Finns with 29%./ Monitor.al
