Study finds/Exercises for weight loss lower the risk of heart attack

Weight-loss exercises can reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke in obese people with cardiovascular disease by a fifth, researchers claim, writes The Sun.

The pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk conducted a five-year study. As part of its trial, the company recruited 17,604 adults over the age of 45 from 41 countries. Each patient had a body mass index (BMI) of 27 or greater and had cardiovascular disease, with no history of diabetes.

Based on the study, it was concluded that weight loss exercises can reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke. Also taking semaglutide, sold under the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus, (a drug originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes and as an anti-obesity drug used for long-term weight management) had an impact on the outcome.

Professor Stephen O'Rahilly, director of the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit at the Institute of Metabolic Sciences, University of Cambridge, said the results were long overdue and did not disappoint./CNA
