The arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has continued with his schemes to evade justice.

As the trial on the merits is taking place this Tuesday at the Special Court, Veliaj has chosen not to be present and the reason is related to a repeated untruth by him.

Through a statement he sent to the court, Veliaj states that he will not be present because not all the files in the case against him have been handed over.

"I will not be present because SPAK has not implemented the Court's decision to hand over the missing files and digital evidence and to enable me to participate as a free man in the courtroom. I request to be represented by lawyer Plarent Ndreca," Veliaj declared.

It seems that the mayor, who has been in the cells of Durrës prison since his arrest on February 10, 2025, does not part with his schemes to evade justice, but also with his fear of the 'cage'.

On Tuesday, March 23, 2026, during the second hearing on the merits against Veliaj, shocking details were revealed from the minutes of the handover of documents that took place in detention.

As prosecutor Ols Dado stated at the time, Veliaj not only refused to take the documents, but also threatened Samet Gurguri, an officer of the National Bureau of Investigation, addressing him with insulting, unethical and threatening words, saying " Fuck, I won't forgive him."

"The minutes clearly state it. In compliance with the order, they went to the Durrës Penitentiary and contacted Erion Veliaj. From the beginning, Erion Veliaj displayed opposing and even insulting behavior towards the BKH investigators. It was an unethical and insulting reaction, refusing to receive the documents. Under these conditions, he left and informed the entire prison chain, from the lawyers to the managers. They all went together to explain the reason to Erion Veliaj. He was opposed and Veliaj addressed him with the words "My wife had an abortion twice. You have destroyed me. Ols Dado has 30 apartments. This scum, I will not forgive the abortion of my two children." Afterwards, Samet Gurguri and the lawyers of the Penitentiary placed the documents and documents in a room in pre-trial detention", said Dado.

This "deceptive" move by Veliaj shows once again that the mayor thinks he can deceive public opinion from prison, while the truth is that his lawyers have obtained the court documents.
