An online pyramid scheme, through the TXEX platform, is suspected of having extorted millions of lek from Albanians.

In a show on A2CNN, cryptocurrency expert Emir Allen said that the risk comes because in this case we are talking about digital money, which cannot be controlled by any type of bank.

Allen raised concerns that this is an advanced scheme and that unfortunately Albania does not have the necessary resources to cope with it.

"Cryptocurrencies are different from the work being done on the ground by certain criminals in Albania at the moment. Cryptocurrencies are digital money, which is not controlled by any type of bank. And it is used just like cash is used, to make a certain payment. Unfortunately, I do not have high hopes that this phenomenon will be stopped. The solution is not to track down these individuals or platforms. Because these honorable people who have had Albania in their hands for the last 35 years have still not found the $1.5 billion that disappeared in 1997 in pyramid schemes. The scheme is much more advanced and Albania is not capable and does not have the resources and knowledge to cope with this type of phenomenon," Allen said. /CNA
