Economic crime in Berat has launched an investigation against 6 former officials of the Poliçan ammunition plant.

Under investigation are the former director Erion Zylyftari, the head of finance, two storekeepers, the dispatcher and the secretary, who allegedly sold over 50 tons of brass and benefited from large sums of money.

It is about the period 2017-2020.

The Poliçani mechanical plant, or the munitions factory, carried out its industrial activity partly in the open field and partly in tunnels for reasons of security and secrecy. The plant consisted of several areas where weapons were manufactured and assembled.

All areas of Poliçan and the surrounding villages worked in this factory. Many workers took their children with them and while they worked, they left them on one side of the factory building, which served as a garden.

Workers could not move from one area of ??the factory to another, except with authorization from the ministry. Today the plant is out of order, while it is of great interest to be visited by tourists

In August, police arrested 4 Czech tourists who were caught taking pictures in the tunnels of the plant./euronews
