Landslide in Ischia, Italy/ 12 missing and 8 victims, among them a newborn

In the Naples region, 12 people have disappeared and 8 people have lost their lives as a result of the landslide that engulfed the island of Ischia in Italy. Among the missing persons, a family with three members, a newborn baby and a 25-year-old woman are reported.

Italy has been gripped by bad weather since yesterday. The island has been blocked due to bad weather and schools have been ordered closed by the mayor.

Italian media have reported that the number of missing persons may increase in the following hours. Many residents of the island find it impossible to leave their homes and the evacuation of a hotel with 30 tourists has been achieved.

Electricity has been cut in many areas of Ischia and local authorities have asked residents to avoid all movements due to extreme weather conditions./ CNA.al
