On the eve of the general parliamentary elections of 2017, Lulzim Basha lobbied with money financed by Russian "offshore" companies in the US to secure a photo with President Donald Trump and to get support in the US Congress.

This scandal has been reported for years, and the more time passes, the more it deepens.

On November 3, "BBC" released an article where other facts were revealed that showed how the events have flowed, from the payments made to Nick Muzin, the latter's lobbying in the USA for the photo of Basha with Donald Trump, as well as for the shell company "Biniatta Trade", behind which stands a Russian.

It is about a Russian named Maxim Trofimets, who had secretly signed agreements with "Alpha Consulting", a secret factory financed by Vladimir Putin's inner circle, to influence the election campaigns of various countries in the world, in favor of Moscow's foreign policy.

"Mother Jones" journalist Dan Friedman, who previously denounced lobbying in the USA, spoke about the scandal with Russian financing of Basha this evening.

Dan Friedman told Robert Pope's CNA Focus show exclusively that Trofimets is not the end of the chain. He stated that the Russian government or Russian espionage could be behind him.

"Trofimets is a 40-year-old man who lives in Moscow. Someone who sells helicopters. It's not him, the end of the chain. It is not known who is really behind him, but he seems to have connections and he lives in Moscow. It has the effect that someone he was working with is behind him. It could be from the Russian government, Russian espionage. Part of what we can speculate is that the State Department released an Intelligence report last year that said some of the DP lobbying money was part of Russian international efforts to promote parties and politicians that were friendly to the Russian agenda", he said.

The journalist of "Mother Jones" did not rule out the possibility that new investigations could be launched after the latest facts that have come to light about Basha.

"I think they can start, but I don't believe it will happen. As for the criminal investigation, it cannot be done only by the Department of Justice. They have counterintelligence investigations. Other US intelligence agencies tracking the Kremlin's money around the world. So, years, there was that investigative reporting. And years concluded that this was part of the Russian operation. I don't know if there will be a criminal investigation by the Department of Justice, but other parts of the government are paying attention to this," he emphasized./ CNA
