"Pride for the Albanian nation", Elvi Fundo on Archbishop Janullatos:

Journalist Elvi Fundo, invited to Erla Mëhilli's "Now" show, spoke about the contribution of Archbishop Anastas Janullatos to Albania. Fundo emphasized that he will remain a highly respected figure, adding that he was born Greek, but died Albanian.

"Pride for the Albanian nation. Beyond what is said, it is seen how he is being respected in his funeral procession, there were hundreds of citizens in the cathedral and there were also Muslims who honor his work. He was stoned, but he has handed over a built autocephalous Orthodox church.

Complex because he is Greek, why did Constantinople bring him. But, he came with a mission. He studied at two universities in Germany, a polyglot, spoke Greek, Albanian, English, German. He was born as a Greek, but died as an Albanian. He built the churches and did not take them with him, but left them to Albania as a legacy.

He built primary, secondary and university schools to educate Albanian clergy. He built health centers, the Orthodox clinic that continues with the same fees as before. He did not build it for income, but to serve the citizens.

He was a missionary, he built churches, he built a brilliant choir of the Orthodox Church to sing in Albanian. He published hundreds and hundreds of works that were translated into Albanian. They are works that belong to education and health.

Janullatos radiated an atmosphere of calm, always showing joy and blessing. This man was so unjustly hit. He said that in Albania they threw stones at him and then in Greece they told him that he was building in Albania and was begging everywhere.

But he said, "I decided to collect the stones and build the churches." He even killed those who fought him with cotton, he prayed for them. There was a rare peace and happiness that only missionaries can have, we had a living saint," Fundo said. /CNA
