North Korea simulates a 'tactical nuclear attack'

North Korea conducted a simulated attack drill of its own, with tactical nuclear weapons, involving two long-range self-guided missiles, state news agency KCNA reported on Sunday (September 3rd).

The agency said the exercise was meant to "warn enemies" that the country would be prepared in the event of a nuclear war.

KCNA reported that the exercise was a success on Saturday, when two missiles carrying mock nuclear warheads were fired into the western waters of the Korean Peninsula.

Pyongyang also said it would strengthen preventive measures against any action by the United States and South Korea.

But South Korea's military said the claim of success during the exercise could be an exaggeration as "not all (missiles) succeeded," Seoul's Yonhap News reported, citing a senior official from the Chief's Office. of the General Staff.

The latest missile test came two days after the end of an annual joint exercise between South Korea and the US.

North Korea has criticized the agreement reached at a high-level meeting last month between Seoul and Washington to improve military cooperation between the two countries./ COA
