"Mother Teresa" International Airport, part of the main air infrastructure network in Europe, had the highest passenger flow with 2022 in the Region and worked much more than capacity, noted the Transport Community that takes care of the integration of the regional infrastructure with that of the European Union.

In a recent special study on Regional air infrastructure, the Transport Community reported that during 2022, Tirana Airport handled a total of 5.2 million passengers, well above its capacity limit of around 3 million passengers this year. According to local data, the only airport in the country in 2023 handled 7.2 million passengers while the capacity reached 4 million passengers.

Tirana will become the first airport in the Region with a railway connection, in accordance with the TEN-T criteria.

The Transport Community points out that Tirana's airport requires a total renovation to increase its overall capacity and runway length.

Podgorica Airport transported a total of 1,322,016 passengers during 2022, using 132.2% of capacity. The airport operates internationally and does not offer rail connections.

Prishtina International Airport transported 2.9 million passengers during 2022, with a capacity utilization percentage of 72.5% of 4 million passengers. The airport operates internationally and offers public bus connections and has no railway. Pristina Airport does not require improvement to increase capacity or runway length.

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport operates internationally and offers bus connections and no rail connections. During the year 2022, Belgrade Airport transported a total of 3,285,760 passengers and the percentage of capacity used is 32%, which indicates that the airport is operating at half of its capacity of 10 million passengers.

Sarajevo International Airport operates internationally and offers public bus connections, but operates no rail connections. According to the data, the airport requires an upgrade to increase overall capacity. By 2022, its capacity was 1.37 million passengers.

Skopje International Airport operates internationally and offers public bus connections, but no rail connections are in operation. During 2022, Skopje Airport transported a total of 1,269,224 passengers and utilized 39.66% which indicates that the airport operates below half of its capacity limit of 3,200,000 passengers

Ohrid "St. Paul" Airport operates internationally and offers public bus connections. During the year 2022, Ohrid Airport transported a total of 122,154 passengers or 30.53%, which indicates that the airport operates under a third of its capacity.

"Constantine the Great" Airport of Nis (Serbia) operates internationally and offers public bus connections. According to the data, the airport requires an upgrade to increase capacity. During the year 2022, Nis Airport handled a total of 430,000 passengers and the used capacity is 84%, according to the report./ Monitor
