The Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration is holding its next session today. In today's session, the chairman of the High Inspector of Justice, Artur Metani, is reporting on the annual activity of the ILD for 2024. He began his speech with the event that shocked public opinion a few days ago, the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja.

"I want to appreciate the role of the Parliament in the difficult situation we went through and are going through since the event that occurred at the beginning of last week. What happened was shocking for everyone. I want to thank the Parliament for holding a minute of silence. In this report, we are presenting not only figures but a panorama of the problems of the judicial system today and the issues that we need to address," said Metani. 

Further during his report, he said that during the past year, 1491 complaints against judges and prosecutors were filed with the ILD, while 1363 complaints were carried over from previous years. He announced that of these complaints, 1374 have been reviewed. 

"During 2024, 1491 new complaints against judges and prosecutors were filed with the ILD, 1363 complaints carried over from previous years. Out of 2854 complaints, 1374 of them were reviewed. The complainants raised claims for delays in announcing decisions, failure to assess evidence, unfair decision-making by magistrates, and for delaying the trial by judges. The ILD has issued 23 decisions for 25 magistrates from the complaints. The ILD has also conducted property investigations. This year, 11 magistrates have been prosecuted, 6 judges and 5 prosecutors, for delays and delaying the process, failure to implement legislation, use of the magistrate's status for personal gain or for others. Dismissal from office was requested for 6 judges, and it was accepted for two," Metani said, among other things. /CNA
