Flood compensation/Vengu: Full information is awaited from the National Civil

Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, has given a statement to the media from the Presidency of the Parliament. Vengu stated that the country's municipalities should pay special attention to funds for compensation for people affected by natural disasters.

The Minister further announced that the Civil Emergency funds will be larger for small municipalities. Regarding the compensation from the recent floods in the country, he said that full information is awaited from the National Civil Protection Agency in order to continue with the allocation of the fund.

"We have significant budgets for dams, river dams, and high water channels for each municipality. Therefore, we reiterate the attention that municipalities should pay to this process because we have very useful funding for them."

We have an emergency response chain that is the same as all EU countries. The chain according to European standards foresees responsibility for the immediate response from the municipality and then at the district level, then intervention by the ministry. Civil Emergency Funds are increasing significantly, especially for municipalities with smaller budgets. Small municipalities will receive more funds for equipment and employee salaries. Drainage channels must be cleaned continuously. We will continue with reforestation to prevent floods. We will continue with a financial package for flood compensation. There are municipalities with different levels of assessment when it comes to damages. We will continue with the reform of the way they are compensated for damages.

According to the law and European standards, damage assessment groups are organized and led by municipalities and the process is monitored by the prefecture and the civil protection agency that makes the final assessment. 60 municipalities have completed the process. The National Civil Protection Agency prepares the complete information for the Ministry of Finance and then the fund is prepared”, said Vengu. /CNA
