Suffering from a serious illness, Sven-Goran Eriksson passes away

The former coach, Sven-Goran Eriksson, has passed away. The Swede passed away at the age of 76, while the news was given by his family members.

For a long time, Eriksson suffered from pancreatic cancer. "After a long illness, Sven-Goran Eriksson died this morning at home, surrounded by family," the Eriksson family said in a statement.

Eriksson became the first foreign manager of the England national football team in 2001. He led England to a team that had some of the best players in the world including David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.

Eriksson has coached various football clubs throughout his career. The Swedish coach stepped down as England coach after the 2006 World Cup and later coached Mexico and Ivory Coast, as well as English clubs Manchester City and Leicester City.

From 2003, Eriksson resigned as sporting director at Swedish club Karlstad in February 2023.
