Mancini's withdrawal from the Italian national team, the coach's mother: He could never get over Vialli's death

Roberto Mancini's decision to step down as national team manager has shocked all of Italy, including his mother Marianna, who knew nothing of her son's intentions.

She said this herself in an interview for "National" newspaper, while adding that Mancini could never get over Vialli's death, implying that this may have influenced him.

"Nothing, I swear. I found out from my cousin. He called me a while ago saying that they had said on TV that Roberto had resigned. I was surprised too. Roberto has a big heart. He never got over the death of Gianluca Vialli. He was very attached to her. Instead of Gianluca, they decided to appoint someone else (Buffon), but I don't even remember who it is, they made the decision a few days ago, if I'm not mistaken," she said .
