"Athlete of the Year 2024" in aeronautics/ Jonathan Islami

Xhonatan Islami wins the "Best Athlete of the Year" award for the umpteenth time in a row, awarded by the Albanian Aeronautics Federation.

Islami expressed his happiness for the victory, while focusing on two key moments for him and the federation in the past year. Among them, Islami said that he feels proud of the perfect organization of the European Air Sports Championship, a merit that, as the athlete said, belongs to the entire federation.

"I am very happy to look back on 2024 because above all it was a success. It was very difficult for me as an athlete, but there are two things that really made me happy in 2024, it is the perfect organization of the European Championship that we all managed together and the second is that personally, taking away all the rest of the competitions, we have an aeroclub that is organizing a competition and I hope that like that aeroclub, I not only wish with all my heart that they will continue every year, but that there will also be other aeroclubs that will organize events and competitions.

Personally, these were the two issues that I really liked and that made me happy for 2024. Sportsman of the Year is a great pleasure for me like every year, it is the only award that includes all flight disciplines. Personally, I am a pilot who has always wanted to be involved in every discipline and to give my results in every discipline and being like this, it is one of the awards that I appreciate a lot and I am very happy with, "said Islami.

The award was presented to Islam by Artion Vreto, Secretary General of the Aeronautical Federation. Vreto, during his speech, focused on the organization of the joint national championship between the Aeronautical Federation of Albania and that of Kosovo, which has led to increased competitiveness between pilots in Kosovo and Albania.

"Like every year, the Albanian Aeronautics Federation holds its national championship, but also the National Cup in cooperation and in a joint manner with the Kosovo Aeronautics Federation, a joint championship.

"We may continue to be the only federations that have a joint championship and for this we feel proud that in 2024 we have successfully held the national championship. Which, for the sake of truth, is a matter of pride because it has greatly increased the competitiveness and standard of the pilots of the two Albanian states and in this way we are all growing together," said Vreto.
