The 3-2-5 scheme for attack, how coach Gattuso changed Italy

Italy led by Gennaro Gattuso is showing a clear tactical approach that goes beyond the usual image of a team with only grit and this was seen in the 5-0 victory in the coach's debut. 

The coach has chosen to activate two pure forwards and two offensive wingers, guaranteeing the coverage of the five vertical channels of the pitch. The training sessions in Coverciano have focused on games with narrow spaces, organized movements and escaping from the opponent's pressure.

The match against Estonia saw a team with an offensive mentality, switching from a 4-4-2 to a structured 3-2-5 in the attacking phase. However, Gattuso is aware that this model needs to be tested against stronger opponents.

The lack of pressure from Estonia made the build-up phase easier. Italy showed a clear identity that is expected to improve over time and with the upcoming matches.
