Milan "saved", Fonseca returns to the bench

Paulo Fonseca's vacation seems to have been short-lived. Just a month after his dismissal from Milan, the Portuguese coach is ready to begin a new chapter in his coaching career. Lyon have reached an agreement to bring him to their bench, seeing the 51-year-old as the right man to rebuild the team and restore its former glory.

After a disappointing start to the season, the French club decided to sack coach Pierre Sage. The club's decision to change direction was not unexpected, given the poor results and lack of progress on the pitch. Lyon's leaders have chosen Fonseca as the ideal coach to bring freshness and experience to a team that has struggled to maintain a competitive pace in Ligue 1.

Although it is still not official, all parties are in agreement and the deal seems to be complete. The French club has great faith in the Portuguese coach, seeing his past successes with other teams such as Shakhtar Donetsk and Lille.

Fonseca's move also benefits Milan. After his dismissal from the Rossoneri, the Italians were forced to pay him until the end of his contract in 2026, a financial burden that had created concerns for the club's budget. However, with Fonseca's new deal with Lyon, his contract with Milan will be automatically terminated, saving the Rossoneri from this financial obligation.

For the Portuguese coach, the move to Lyon is an opportunity to regain lost confidence after a difficult period at Milan. He has previously shown that he is capable of building competitive teams and implementing an attractive style of play, which has attracted the attention of many clubs over the years.

Lyon, on the other hand, hopes that this collaboration will be a starting point for a new era, where the club returns as a dominant force in French and European football.
