Rejecting Milan, Akanji "stabs" rivals: I'm at the biggest

Inter have announced the latest signing of the transfer window, Swiss defender Manuel Akanji, transferred from Manchester City.

The 29-year-old Swiss-born player arrives in Serie A after several impressive seasons in the Premier League, where he was part of one of the continent's strongest teams. Before joining City, he excelled in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, and is a regular starter for the Swiss national team.

In his presentation, Akanji appeared very happy, while his words were also interpreted as a jab at his rivals.

The defender rejected Milan before transferring to the Nerazzurri, while in his words he emphasized that Inter is the biggest team in Italy.

The Swiss emphasized that he is willing to adapt to coach Chivu's demands, as he can be activated as a center back, but also on the wings of the defensive unit, a quality that makes a player valuable to the team's structure.

"For me, Inter is the biggest club in Italy and one of the biggest in the world. They have proven this over the last few years. It was very easy to choose this club.

I can play in any position in a three-man defense. I'm ready to play in any position, wherever the coach puts me.

Inter have shown that they can reach big finals. I hope we can reach them again and this time we win.

"Serie A is different from the Premier League. Even the Bundesliga was different. I've seen a lot of Italian league matches. I know the teams. I really like this league and that's one of the reasons why I'm here," Akanji declared.

The defender joined Inter on loan for 2 million euros, with an option to buy at the end of the season for 15 million euros.
