Former Swedish footballer Martin Bengtsson was considered to be reaching the top with Inter, but it was the fight with depression that made him quit football at the age of 19.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, he discusses the new film that deals with his suicide attempt and how he found peace.

Martin Bengtsson had wanted to become a footballer since childhood, where he achieved this at Inter. That was supposed to be his dream, but he was depressed. He tried to take his own life. At the age of 19, due to the battle with depression, the Swede left football forever.

"I had this dream when I was five years old to play at the San Siro. I was very determined that this was my goal. I had a schedule. I exercised for hours every day to achieve it. "When I got there I came very close to that goal," Bengtsson told Sky Sports.

"But when I achieved it, something happened to this illusion I had as a child that brought me such joy. When I saw what it was, the magic just disappeared. The joy of football was trying to reach Italy. "The tragic part is that I got too close and it was not for me," said the Swede.

The extraordinary story of Bengtsson, who left the game for his health, is almost two decades later the subject of a film called "Tigers" which was screened at film festivals and was also followed by the Swedish national team.

But what was it like for Bengtsson to be part of the film premiere in Rome, which proves the lowest point of his life?

"It was very exciting. "Great, even," Bengtsson replied.

Bengtsson, who is now 36 years old, showed that he does not even think of returning to football despite his age, but that he uses football as a means of relaxation and pleasure.
