Mitaj is plagued by bad luck, even with the new coach

Sergio Conceicao has officially made his debut on the bench of Al Itihad, the team competing in the Saudi championship. The Portuguese coach, who took charge of the team last week, began his adventure with a 1-1 draw against Al Fajha in the match held in Riyadh. But for Mario Mitaj, the defender of the Albanian national team, the news was not positive.

Just like when Blanc was in charge, Conceicao decided not to include Mitaj in the squad for this match. The left-back was present in daily training sessions with the group, but his name was again missing from the official protocol.

The reason is related to the Saudi championship regulations, which only allow eight foreign players to register for each match.

In this match, the Portuguese coach chose goalkeeper Rajkovic, midfielders Danilo Pereira, N'Golo Kante and Fabinho as starting foreigners, as well as strikers Diaby, Benzema and Bergwijn, while Doumbia was activated in the second half.

As a result, Mitaj remains out of the team's plans for the championship, a situation that puts him in difficulty in terms of activation and pace of play.

If this situation does not change, the Albanian defender is expected to have little room to play until the next national team matches, with the exception of the Asian Champions League competition, where the restriction on the number of foreigners does not apply.

In this way, Mitaj's immediate future in Saudi Arabia remains uncertain, while the club and the new coach will decide in the coming weeks whether the Albanian national team defender will be more involved in the team's rotation.
