Suspected links to Russian oligarch, police raid Bayern offices

The bad moment of the team in terms of results is not enough, now Bayern is experiencing an unusual situation outside the field.

Last Friday, as reported by "Bild", the offices of the Bavarian club were raided by officials of the Federal and State Office of the Criminal Police of Bavaria.

The reason for the raid is related to a suspected money laundering procedure of Alisher Usmanov, a Russian oligarch who has long resided in Tegernsee, Bavaria.

Usmanov is very close to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, but also to Uli Hoeness, the former president of Bayern.

His name is present in numerous requests for sanctions by the international community after the start of the war that has involved Russia and Ukraine since 2022.

From 2017 to last year, Usmanov was under investigation as a suspect for laundering several million euros. A few months ago, three of his villas on Lake Tegernsee were searched by the police.

His connection with Bayern lies precisely in his proximity to Hoeness.

Bayern's number 1 also lives in Tegernsee, the same municipality where Usmanov's residence is located.

"Our authority is not conducting any investigation against Bayern, the club's directors or members," the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office said.

Bayern have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
