Ivan Rakitic retires from playing football

Ivan Rakitic has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37, ending a prolific career at club and international level.

The Croatian midfielder announced his decision through a video on social media, summarizing the most important moments of his journey. He began his career at Basel in 2005, and then continued with Schalke in Germany.

In 2011 he moved to Sevilla, with whom he won the Europa League in 2014, and later joined Barcelona, ??where he enjoyed his greatest success, including the Champions League triumph in 2015.

He returned to Sevilla in 2020 and won the Europa League again in 2023. He ended his career after stints with Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia and Hajduk Split. Rakitic played 106 games for Croatia, reaching the World Cup final in 2018.
