Formula 1/ A new contract with a 'sheikh' salary for the driver Lewis

Retirement may still be waiting for Lewis Hamilton. The British driver has just one year left on his contract with Mercedes, but as he celebrated his 38th birthday on January 7, talks have begun over a new extension. This new contract would cover a two-year period, i.e. until the end of 2025, with a salary of 70 million euros per season, compared to around 45 million euros currently (with a 25 million euro bonus in case of title).

Those bonuses would once again make Lewis Hamilton the highest-paid driver in the paddock ahead of Max Verstappen, who would have received €40 million last season plus €20 million in bonuses for his second world championship title. Team boss Toto Wolf would in any case be very confident about the outcome of the negotiations.

Last year, Lewis Hamilton ended the season without a win. But the seven-time world champion aims to re-engage in the title fight with Max Verstappen and win an 8th world crown, which would make him the most successful driver in history.
