Ceferin with big words for Duka, head of the Albanian Football Federation:

The Football Federation organized a dinner last evening at the "Brigade Palace" with the participation of the highest European football leaders, who were in Tirana for the next meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee.

UEFA President Aleksander ?eferin, in his welcoming speech, praised the hospitality of the Albanian Football Association and President Armand Duka, and highlighted the development of Albanian football and Albania. He once again emphasized the powerful message that football and sport should unite people.

"It's always a pleasure to be in Albania. Every time I come, I see changes in infrastructure, I see new things built. I still don't understand why Albania is not yet a member of the European Union. But I think you are close."

Football is developing here thanks to the good work of the Albanian Football Federation, my dear friend Armand, as well as the support of the government. I like this friendly relationship even though sometimes they know how to be persistent when they want to push me to give them a competition. But I explained to them that this is a decision of the Executive Committee and I cannot promise anything.

My friends, football unites people. Not only football, sport unites people. Sport should be against violence and is against violence, against division. That is why I am happy that Albania is co-organizing the European U-21 Championship 2027 together with Serbia.

And I'm also happy that we spoke with the Prime Minister about the possibility, not of a charity match, but of a match between veteran players from European Union countries and those from countries that will soon join the EU.

"Thank you very much once again, Armand, for your hospitality and above all for your friendship," said President ?eferin in his speech.

The President of the Football Federation, Armand Duka, during the dinner organized in Tirana in honor of the UEFA Executive Committee, expressed his honor for holding this historic meeting for the first time in Albania. He emphasized the journey of Albanian football from modest infrastructure to modern standards thanks to the support of the government and international partners, mentioning successes such as the UEFA Europa Conference League final and the organization of the U-17 European Championship.

President Duka praised the contribution of football clubs and leaders in the country, as well as the development of grassroots and girls' football. The head of the Albanian football government underlined the importance of co-organizing the European U-21 Championship in 2027 with Serbia as an opportunity to show Albania's capacities in organizing major events and the role of football in bringing nations closer together.

Presidenti Duka falënderoi UEFA-n për besimin dhe mbështetjen, duke theksuar se Shqipëria tashmë ka dëshmuar aftësinë e saj për të pritur aktivitete të nivelit më të lartë dhe është e gatshme për sfida të tjera madhore në të ardhmen, duke përfshirë edhe synimin për të mirëpritur një ditë finalen e Superkupës së UEFA-s në Tiranë.

Të dashur miq,

Me kënaqësi dhe krenari të madhe, në emër të Federatës Shqiptare të Futbollit, ju uroj mirëseardhjen të gjithëve sonte në Tiranë.

Mikpritja e Komitetit Ekzekutiv të UEFA-s nuk është vetëm një nder për Federatën Shqiptare të Futbollit, por edhe një moment historik për futbollin shqiptar dhe për të gjithë vendin tonë, pasi kjo është hera e parë që një takim i tillë mbahet në Shqipëri.

Duke parë pas rrugëtimin e futbollit në Shqipëri, shohim sa shumë kemi ecur përpara. Nga infrastruktura modeste dhe mundësitë e kufizuara pas shkatërrimeve të viteve ’90, falë mbështetjes së madhe të qeverisë sonë, veçanërisht të Kryeministrit tonë, si dhe partnerëve tanë ndërkombëtarë në UEFA dhe FIFA, kemi ndërtuar infrastrukturë moderne. Kjo përfshin stadiumin tonë kombëtar këtu në Tiranë, i cili priti finalen e UEFA Europa Conference League në vitin 2022 dhe Kampionatin Europian U-17 të UEFA-s këtë vit.

Dua gjithashtu të falënderoj anëtarët tanë të dashur, presidentët e përkushtuar të klubeve tona dhe drejtuesit e shoqatave rajonale. Besimi juaj, mbështetja dhe investimi në futboll kanë qenë vendimtare për rritjen tonë. Së bashku, kemi zhvilluar futbollin e bazës, kemi investuar në akademitë e të rinjve dhe kemi hapur dyert e mundësive për djem e vajza anembanë vendit. Sot, futbolli i vajzave nuk është thjesht në rritje – ai po frymëzon një brez të ri sportistësh dhe tifozësh.

Ekipet tona kombëtare, me guxim dhe krenari, qëndrojnë tashmë lart në skenën ndërkombëtare, duke garuar me nder dhe dinjitet, duke bartur me vete shpresat dhe ëndrrat e gjithë kombit tonë.

Ndjehemi veçanërisht krenarë për përgjegjësinë që UEFA dhe Komiteti Ekzekutiv na kanë dhënë për të bashkë-organizuar Kampionatin Europian U-21 në vitin 2027 me Serbinë. Ky do të jetë eventi më i madh i futbollit që Shqipëria ka organizuar ndonjëherë, duke shfaqur stadiumet tona, pasionin tonë dhe aftësinë për të pritur talentet më të shkëlqyer të Europës. Është gjithashtu një mundësi për të treguar se si futbolli mund të afrojë kombet dhe të frymëzojë.

Ju falënderoj sinqerisht për besimin, mbështetjen dhe bashkëpunimin me Federatën Shqiptare të Futbollit. Prania juaj këtu është një mesazh i qartë se Shqipëria është pjesë e çmuar e familjes europiane të futbollit.

We are not just passionate about football, we are hungry for it. We live and breathe the game, and we have already proven our ability to organize world-class events with great results. Supported by our government and local authorities, we are fully prepared to host even bigger events in the future.

Imagine, the UEFA Super Cup final in Tirana. A moment not only historic, but truly unforgettable, that would engrave our country's name with pride on the global football scene.

Tonight this dinner is not just about formal matters, it is about the friendship, unity and connections that football has given us. After so many years in this beautiful game, I have learned a simple truth: Victories shine brighter when shared, and challenges feel lighter when faced side by side. Football is more than a sport – it is a family, and tonight we celebrate that family together.

On behalf of the Albanian football community and on my own behalf, I deeply thank you for participating in this special evening. Thank you!”

Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his speech during the dinner with UEFA leaders, proposed that Albania host the UEFA Super Cup final in 2028. He emphasized the country's readiness to host major sporting events and invited UEFA representatives to return to Albania for other important football activities.

"President Duka spoke about the ambition we have together to have the Pope return with some of you for another final, we want the Super Cup.

So, let's make an agreement, if we organize, if we have the NATO summit and everything goes very well, security is higher, you will bring the Super Cup final in 2028.

I believe it is a fair deal and I am sure that on the right and left of the table you have support for this idea, not enough for votes, but we will work, we will work for this. I am truly humbled to be invited and accepted here as part of your evening. Politicians come and go, but legends like Luis Figo never go, and football never goes away.

So feel blessed that you have the privilege of representing the most beloved sport in the world and believe me, I am truly honored that you invited me and that I am part of this evening and you must understand that whenever you want to come back, not officially, but simply for pleasure, for fun, for relaxation, or for any reason, you are welcome here, this is your home.

You are privileged, because unlike others you have two homes here, the House of Football and the House of Government. Thank you!”
