No fewer than 23 people, including 11 footballers and a coach, have been arrested in Hong Kong for taking part in fixing football matches for betting.

Hong Kong's Independent Anti-Corruption Commission has announced that, after a year-long investigation, the first conclusions have been drawn. 23 people involved in party manipulations were arrested.

The publication 'South China Morning Post' claims that earlier this week players from the first division Happy Valley, as well as footballers from Tung Sing and Fu Moon, from the second division worth the championship, were interviewed.

Before matches, members of an organized gang reportedly contacted the coach and players to give them instructions and offer bribes. Some even received thousands of dollars for losing games to weaker teams.

"I will use everything in my power to work with the authorities to eradicate this problem in Hong Kong football. We have zero tolerance for match-fixing," said Pui Kwan-kay, president of the Hong Kong Federation.

The 23 suspects are accused of bribery, illegal gambling and other similar crimes.
