"It is holding two states hostage" / Bulgaria reacts harshly to

Bulgaria has reacted harshly after the statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who said that this country is holding Albania and Northern Macedonia hostage.

In a statement, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry called Rama's stances offensive, while urging him to correct his language.

The statement states that politicians are leaving, but nations remain, while emphasizing that it is unacceptable for relations between states to become hostage to the eccentricity of the current Albanian prime minister.

“Bullgaria ka qenë gjithmonë ndër ato shtete anëtare të Bashkimit Evropian që mbështesin përkatësinë evropiane të popullit shqiptar. Ne kemi mbrojtur perspektivën evropiane të Shqipërisë dhe fillimin e negociatave për anëtarësim në BE, edhe kur ishte shumë më e vështirë se sot.

Ndër vite nuk ka pasur shumë zëra të tjerë me ne në këtë kauzë. Ne e mbrojmë atë sot, pavarësisht gjithçkaje, në emër të një të ardhmeje të përbashkët evropiane.

Si kundërpërgjigje, nuk është hera e parë që dëgjojmë kualifikime të paprovokuara të ashpra, fyese nga një kryetar qeverie. Gurët e tëmthit në një regjistër kaq të ulët gjuhësor nuk mund të justifikohen më nga natyra dhe mungesa e aftësive evropiane të komunikimit.

We expect the Albanian Prime Minister to adapt his means of expression to a language that suits a politician of a candidate country for EU membership.

At this level, more than any other, we insist on maintaining a good tone of communication. At this level we have always shown all the respect that requires a responsible position and level of interstate relations. We have a common future with Albania.

Politicians leave. Nations remain. Our peoples have a common interest, which should not be violated by a wrong judgment of the politician. "It is unacceptable for the relations between the states to be held hostage to the eccentricity of the current Albanian Prime Minister,"  reads the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs./ CNA.al
