Changes from Electoral Reform/Capri: High threshold hits new political parties

Opportunity Party MP Erald Kapri shared today a critical approach regarding the changes that political entities will face from the Electoral Reform.

In a televised statement, Kapri said that setting a high electoral threshold is like a blow to new political parties, who are finding this transition difficult.

According to the MP, such a plan not only hits parties, but also democracy and pluralism in Albania.

"The change to a national proportional system, even with an open list that at first glance may seem more democratic, actually aims to hit the new parties because they will set a high threshold. If you look, none of them dares to say what the threshold is and setting a high threshold would be a direct blow not only to us, the new parties, but to democracy and plurality in Albania. The plan to reduce the number of deputies from 140 to 101 aims precisely to make it difficult or impossible for other parties to enter the elections. So this is all a farce, it is all an opportunity to hit political plurality in Albania", - said Kapri. /CNA
