The head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, has sent a letter to Speaker Elisa Spiropali, regarding the presence of Special Forces in the premises of the Parliament.

Bardhi qualifies this as an unprecedented act, a serious constitutional coup against the Albanian Parliament itself and an unprecedented provocation against the opposition.

He asks for information about which authority gave the order for the presence of Special Forces in the Parliament, as well as the cameras of the Parliament.

The head of the DP Group emphasizes that whoever gave the order for the introduction of the Special Forces will be held responsible.

On 17.10.2024, during the plenary session, in flagrant violation of Article 122 of the Rules of the Assembly and the law on the State Police, the Special Forces of the State Police have violated, obstructed and threatened the opposition MPs within the premises of the Assembly. Albania. The intervention of the Ganda of the Republic (employees of the Security Service of the Assembly) was needed to protect the MPs from aggression within the premises of the Assembly by the employees of the State Police.

The introduction of the Special Forces of the State Police inside the premises of the Assembly, during the parliamentary activity, preventing the deputies from moving into the premises of the Assembly, threatening the lives of the opposition deputies and violating their physical integrity, is an unprecedented act. in the functioning of the Assembly of Albania. Never in the history of parliamentarization in Albania, a Speaker of the Assembly has not allowed the entry of the Special Forces of the State Police into the internal environment of the Assembly of Albania. Never in the history of parliamentarianism in Albania has it happened that the Special Forces of the State Police obstruct a member of the Assembly within his premises.

Inform immediately who was the authority that gave the order for the introduction of the Special Forces of the State Police in the internal environment of the Parliament of Albania?

Make available the security cameras of all internal and external premises of the Parliament of Albania (including but not limited to: the plenary hall, the connecting corridors of the plenary hall, the main entrance of the Parliament, the external premises of the courtyard of the Parliament of Albania)

Strongly condemning the brutal, unprecedented act of aggression by the State Police against the opposition deputies in the internal premises of the Parliament of Albania, I assure you that you personally and anyone else who arbitrarily orders the Special Forces of the State Police to violate MPs of the opposition, you will be held responsible for this serious legal violation, which has the characteristics of a constitutional coup against the integrity of the Assembly of Albania./ CNA
