Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the statement by Israeli journalist Amit Segal that the government will host 100,000 refugees from the Gaza Strip in Albania after talks with the new American administration, rejecting this news.

In a post on social media, Rama said that he is proud of the strong friendships with Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, but Albania is not a country in the Middle East. 

I haven't heard something so false in a long time—and there's been a lot of fake news lately! This is completely untrue.

Full respect and solidarity for the people of Gaza, who have been dehumanized by the barbaric Hamas regime and have gone through a hellish war after the medieval horror of October 7. But let me be clear: Albania has not been asked by anyone, and we cannot even think of taking on such responsibility.

We are proud of our strong friendships with Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and, of course, with the Palestinian people, whose state Albania has recognized for a long time.
But Albania is not in the Middle East, and from the heart of Europe, we cannot do more than any other European country on this issue. However, we wish and pray that the Palestinian people will have the opportunity to live in their own state, as free people under democratic rule, and that Hamas will no longer be able to harm Israel—or, above all, the Palestinians themselves , writes Rama/ CNA
