A clothes warehouse was engulfed in flames this Sunday afternoon in the 'Student City' area in Tirana, endangering several apartments.

The fire continues to be active for hours, while the supporting columns of the building, which is already in danger of collapsing, have also been damaged.

The director of the fire brigade, Shkëlqim Goxhaj, in a statement to the media, criticized the business for not taking measures against the fire. He said this makes the job very dangerous.

"The fire was difficult because of the materials. The owner did not act well for fire protection. I appeal to businesses that are underground not to become a destination, because firefighting becomes dangerous. Despite numerous water jets, the fire has not yet been extinguished," said Goxhaj.

While the director of Commissariat no. 1 in Tirana Bujar Mehmeti said that the causes are still unknown and that there is no evidence of intentional arson./ CNA.al
