14 Albanian judges leave for training in the USA

Fourteen judges leave for a visit to the United States of America to discuss judicial independence, integrity and efficiency.

According to the announcement of the American Embassy in Tirana, it says that 7 judges are from the Special Court of First Instance and 7 others from the Special Court of Appeal.

US Embassy Notice:

"This week, seven judges from the Special Court of First Instance and seven from the Special Court of Appeals are visiting the United States on a trip led by the Transoceanic Office for Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT) and funded by the Bureau International on Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to exchange ideas with judges and prosecutors on key topics, including judicial independence, integrity and efficiency. The delegation began the visit to Denver, Colorado on Monday, where they met with twelve US trial and appellate judges and observed court proceedings. American judges expressed their admiration and support for the vital work of the Special Court's judges, emphasizing the importance of deciding cases independently, without outside influence, and persevering despite criticism and threats. This visit follows the trip in July to Albania of three important American guests: Chief District Court Robert J. Shelby, Utah Supreme Court Justice Paige Petersen and US Attorney Trina Higgins. The United States remains committed to supporting the judges of the Special Court and encouraging them to rule independently, based only on the law and the facts.”/ CNA
