Von der Leyen: US-Israel war is costing EU 500 million euros a day

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned this Wednesday that EU countries are losing billions of euros as the war with Iran hits oil and gas prices.

According to Von der Leyen, the US-Israeli war is costing the EU almost 500 million euros a day, adding to fears of a fuel shortage for jets within weeks.

"The world's largest trading bloc must learn lessons from the 2022 fuel crisis, when Russia used its energy power against European countries to undermine their support for Ukraine, to avoid further damage to their economies," the EU chief stressed.

More than 350 billion euros were spent on unforeseen measures and this had a major impact on the finances of member states, as Von der Leyen declared to EU lawmakers in Strasbourg. /CNA
