Ukraine remains without electricity after Russian airstrikes

After the Russian airstrikes, which hit Ukraine's electricity grid, millions of Ukrainians were left in the ground.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that many regions were affected by the attacks and also warned that about half of Kiev would be without electricity in the coming days.

He said that engineers have already started work to repair the power lines hit by the attacks.

So far no casualties have been reported.

Meanwhile, four people were killed in Monday's attacks.

The spokesman of the Ukrainian air force, Yuriy Ignat, told Radio Free Europe that on December 5 the air defense managed to hit more than 60 of the 70 missiles launched.

He said 38 missiles were fired from Tu-95 bombers, which are stationed in the Caspian Sea region and in the southern Russian region of Rostov. This region is located on the eastern border of Ukraine. Meanwhile, 22 Kalibr missiles, according to him, were launched from ships of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea.

In late November, Zelensky said that Russian missile attacks had damaged more than 50 percent of the country's energy infrastructure.

Russian airstrikes on Ukraine's power grid and other infrastructure have left millions of Ukrainians without heat, electricity and water at a time of extremely low temperatures./REL
