US condemns North Korea's satellite launch

The White House strongly condemned North Korea for launching a satellite into space, calling this action a "serious violation" of United Nations sanctions. Washington said such an action could destabilize the region.

The release "raises tensions and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region and beyond," National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said in a statement.

North Korea's state media reported that the country has successfully put an observation satellite into orbit.

A rocket carrying the satellite was launched from North Korea on Tuesday, putting the observation satellite 'Malligyong-1' into orbit, the North Korean news agency KCNA said.

Watson stressed that the move involved technologies that are "directly" linked to the North's ballistic missile program.

According to UN Security Council resolutions, Pyongyang has no right to test ballistic missiles.

"The door to diplomacy is not closed, but Pyongyang must immediately stop provocative actions and choose diplomacy," the statement said./ Rel
