Commission for the supervision of KIA in Kosovo: The threat from Serbia remains

Representatives of the Commission for the supervision of the Intelligence Agency in the parliament of Kosovo, said on Wednesday that the threat from Serbia and the organizations that are sheltered and trained in Serbia for tensioning the security situation in Kosovo is estimated to be high.

These statements were made after the meeting that representatives of this commission had with the head of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Petrit Ajeti.

"The situation in the four municipalities in the north is stable and why Serbia's interventions and efforts to tense the security situation are continuous. The threat from Serbia and the paramilitary and terrorist organizations whose members are being sheltered and trained in Serbia is assessed as very high. Based on the intelligence data, the terrorist group is conducting exercises in several locations in the vicinity of Novi Pazar, Kopaonik and Kraleva", said Ganimete Musliu, head of the Commission.

On September 24 last year, a group of armed Serbs attacked the Kosovo police in the village of Banjské in the north of the country, killing one officer and injuring two others. Milan Radoicic, former vice president of Lista Serbe, the largest party of Kosovo Serbs supported by Belgrade, took responsibility for the preparation and leadership of the armed group.

Mrs. Musliu said that the group led by Milan Radoicic continues to be structured, has sufficient financial means and support from official Belgrade.

"They are continuously planning, discussing the possibilities for attacks. The leader of the group, Milan Radoicic, continues the close cooperation with the security structures of Serbia with high state officials, as well as maintaining contact with several groups of radical and criminal organizations with regional scope," said Mrs. Musliu.

The peacekeeping forces of NATO in Kosovo do not respond to the interest of the Voice of America to comment on the statements of the institutions of Kosovo.

But during the proceedings of the NATO summit last week in Washington, a senior official of the alliance said that "the peacekeeping forces are concerned about the security situation and the possibility of its deterioration", while calling on Kosovo and Serbia to engage in dialogue to find a political solution.

After the attack in Banjska, Western diplomats made new efforts to speed up the process of normalizing relations between the two countries amid concerns about stability in the region.

The Government of Kosovo is requested to establish the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, while the Government of Serbia fulfills the obligations leading to the de facto recognition of Kosovo.

The last two meetings in Brussels between the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia and at the level of chief negotiators of both sides aimed at unblocking the implementation of the agreement, ended without any results.

The representatives of Kosovo and Serbia are expected to send their comments to the mediators of the European Union by Thursday about the way to implement the agreement on the normalization of relations, which the parties agreed on last year in Brussels and Ohrid.

The European Union expects to draw up a new proposal on this process based on the comments of the parties./ VOA
