Former President Donald Trump was injured Saturday night during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The gunman and at least one Trump supporter were killed, and two other bystanders were injured, the Secret Service said.
The FBI has identified the gunman as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Authorities say he fired several shots from the roof of a building outside the rally before being killed by Secret Service agents.
Eyewitnesses described a "bloody" and chaotic scene. The situation is clearly visible in the following photos, where moments from the assassination are shown.
In connection with the serious event, the American president Joe Biden has also reacted.
The latter denounced the violence in the comments and said in an earlier statement that he is "grateful" that Trump is safe.
Biden, who was planning to stay in Delaware for the weekend, returned to the White House earlier than planned so he could continue to receive information from law enforcement. /CNA
