Ten people have been killed after two navy helicopters collided mid-air during a military rehearsal for a Royal Malaysian Navy parade.

The incident happened at 09:30 local time in the Malaysian city of Lumut, which is home to a naval base, the BBC reports.

"All the victims were confirmed dead on the spot and the remains were sent to the [Lumut] Military Hospital for identification," the Royal Malaysian Navy said.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that "the nation mourns the tragedy that hurt hearts and souls."

"Condolences to all the families of the victims and prayers for strength to face this disaster," he said. /CNA
