The Government of the Republic of Kosovo has formalized the increase in the minimum wage for all full-time workers, dividing the process into two phases during 2026. With this decision, minimum wages are set at 425 euros gross from January and 500 euros gross from July.
The decision of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to increase the minimum wage has officially entered into force, marking one of the most important changes in employment policies in recent years.
The increase will be implemented in two phases during 2026, in order to facilitate the adaptation of the public and private sectors to the new salary standards.
According to official decision number 10/273, dated October 31, 2025, signed by acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the minimum wage for full-time work will be 425 euros gross starting January 1, 2026. In the second phase, which comes into force on July 1, 2026, the minimum wage will increase to 500 euros gross.
The decision obliges the Ministry of Finance, Labor and Transfers, the Kosovo Tax Administration (ATK) and the Labor Inspectorate to take all necessary actions for its timely and complete implementation.
This change comes after a long period of discussions and demands from labor unions to adjust the minimum wage to inflation and the cost of living.
The government has stated that it aims with this decision to improve the well-being of workers and strengthen labor market standards in the country.
The minimum wage in Kosovo has so far been among the lowest in the region, so its increase is expected to have a significant impact on the purchasing power of citizens and on improving working conditions.
However, some private sector representatives have requested additional support from the Government, warning that small and medium-sized businesses may face financial difficulties in the first phase of implementation.
On the other hand, trade union organizations have welcomed the decision, describing it as a positive step towards social justice and the highest appreciation of honest work.
According to them, this decision should be followed by additional measures to control prices and protect workers from possible violations of labor law.
The decision enters into force on the day of publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Kosovo, and its implementation will be monitored by the relevant institutions./ Monitor
