The revolt of the youth and citizens of Tirana against the arrested mayor, Erion Veliaj, started years ago and they have shown their anger towards him with actions.

Eight years ago, more specifically in 2018, in the center of Tirana, a group of young people threw eggs at Erion Veliaj, as a sign of their opposition to the demolition of the National Theater. Today, the anger towards the arrested mayor has not diminished, not to mention increased even more. This was also seen in the protests organized in the capital, where citizens have been chanting slogans against him since the first day of the rallies.

We recall that Erion Veliaj has been in prison since February 10 of last year, because he faces 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses, 9 counts of corruption, abuse of office, laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense, concealing property, and bringing prohibited items into the cell.

He continues to remain in prison by decision of all courts at every level.

His voluminous file has been in court since July and Erion Veliaj continues the saga of postponing hearings, like a coward to avoid facing justice. /CNA
