Former head of ARRSH requests release from prison/ GJKKO rejects appeal


The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of the former head of the Albanian Road Authority, Evis Berberi. Berberi sought his release from prison through this appeal.


He opposed the decision of the Special Appeal for the security measure "prison arrest", while the trio of senior judges composed of Ilir Panda, Medi Bici and Albana Boksi, dismissed the request. This same judicial body has reviewed the same request submitted by Berberi earlier.

The former head of the ARRSH has been held in a detention cell since March 14, 2024. Valter Begaj and Ervis Lami were also placed in handcuffs with him. The latter was released a short time ago by the First Instance, but the Special Appeal returned him to the cell, after the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office appealed the decision of the GJKKO.
SPAK says that Evis Berberi, during his time as head of the Energy Efficiency Agency but also as head of the ARRSH, awarded six tenders for the company of his partner Valter Begaj and then the profits were transferred to the company he indirectly owned.


The two businessmen Lami and Begaj are suspected of having, in collaboration with Berber, made fictitious sales of the company of the former head of the ARRSH and other fictitious actions, making it possible to conceal the criminal offense of corruption. The investigations conducted by SPAK showed that the benefit was around 2.2 million euros that were invested by the company "DAAM" shpk, in real estate./ CNA
