Exclusive/ The Supreme Court leaves Erion Veliaj in prison

The Supreme Court has remanded Erion Veliaj in prison. Sources for CNA learn that the Supreme Court has rejected his appeal to change the security measure.

This is the several times that Veliaj has sought freedom from the Supreme Court and the latter has left him in prison.

We recall that Erion Veliaj has been arrested since February 10 on 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses, 9 cases of corruption, 1 for laundering the proceeds of crime, 1 for concealing assets and 1 for introducing prohibited items into detention cells, and most recently for abuse of office.

Veliaj was dismissed on September 25 by decision of the Council of Ministers.

The former mayor appealed the decision to the Constitutional Court, but yesterday, on October 1, President Bajram Begaj decreed November 9 for partial local elections in the country's 6 municipalities./ CNA
