Ex-Barcelona man's shocking confession: My heart is 45% dead

Marc Overmars, at a difficult moment in his life. The former Dutch player wanted to convey to the press the delicate situation he is going through after the stroke he suffered in December.

For the first time after the event, he wanted to tell in the first person the health problems that are bothering him.

“I have to breathe hard when I talk and it takes energy to stay focused. My heart is 45% dead. But you don't have to feel sorry for me. I am a happy person, only that I have to distribute my energy as best as possible", assured the former player of Ajax, Barcelona and Arsenal in an interview for "Het LaatsteNieuws".

Overmars is still active. After leaving Ajax, he took the post of sporting director at Royal Antwerp FC in the Belgian league, where he stayed for more than a year.

"If there are important items or meetings on the agenda, I focus on them. I can recover the next day. I'd rather die here than do nothing," says the former Dutch player, now 50 years old.

The Overmars have experienced major changes recently. He was accused of sexual harassment in 2022 and this led to his sudden departure from Ajax.

"He has crossed the limits", was the convincing reason that was accepted by the club's top management. Overmas saw his career sink.

However, months later Antwerp gave him a chance. He asked to use it, accompanied by Mark Van Bommel, the coach of the team.

The ghosts returned, as the sponsors were not too happy with this appointment at the club.

Overmars, although much weaker physically continues to give his all in Belgium. A few days ago, Antwerp won the Belgian Cup after years of drought. Now he dreams of triumph in the Jupiler Pro League.
