Controversy erupts/ Acerbi refuses to join Italy: I won't go where...

Francesco Acerbi has decided to withdraw from the Italian national team squad for the match against Norway. The news was initially confirmed by Italy coach Luciano Spalletti, a day after the team lost the Champions League final to Inter.

Treiber emphasized that it was the player himself who made this decision and the matter would be further evaluated.

Acerbi then reacted publicly through a post on social media, explaining the reasons for his decision. He stressed that he no longer felt respected by the technical staff and that he did not want to be part of a place where he did not feel welcome.

REACTION:

After deep reflection, I communicated to the coach today that I will not accept the call-up to the national team. It is not a decision taken lightly, because wearing the blue jersey has always been an honor and a source of pride for me. However, I have come to believe that, as a result of recent events, the conditions do not exist today to continue calmly on this path. I am not asking for excuses or favors, but I ask for respect. And if this respect is lacking from those who should lead a group, then I prefer to leave.

I'm not someone who clings to a call: I've always given everything, but I don't stay where I'm not really wanted and it's clear that I'm not part of the coach's project. This is my decision, and as I told the coach this morning, it's not final nor dictated by anger, much less by 'depression' for a lost Champions League final, but simply by the need to take a step back. I wish the best to the national team and my teammates, I will continue to support them with the same love that I have always shown on the pitch.
