Modric and De Bruyne, Serie A becomes the oldest championship in Europe

Serie A has become the oldest championship in Europe in terms of the average age of players, leaving behind the continent's 31 major leagues.

According to the latest data, the average age in Italy is 14 months higher than the European average, reflecting a trend towards experience.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has followed a completely opposite trend, increasing by 32% the number of under-23 players playing more than 900 minutes per season. Serie A is increasingly becoming a destination for late-career stars such as Luka Modric and Kevin De Bruyne.

Italian clubs continue to rely on experience, unlike the talent development philosophy being followed in England, Germany and France.

These leagues are investing in academies and scouting, creating younger and more dynamic teams. The difference between the leagues is now not only in the style of play, but also in the age profile of the players.
