The Albanian Football Federation (AFF) will not participate in the 31st General Assembly of the Albanian National Olympic Committee (ANOC), which will take place on April 23, 2025. This decision is a consequence of the open refusal by the ANOC Executive Committee to include in the agenda an official request from the AFF, submitted on March 28, 2025, in accordance with the right that the ANOC Statute recognizes for each of its members.
The request of the AFF was intended to express the position of the General Assembly on the implementation of the final decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which has declared the previous decision-making of the AFF, its electoral mechanisms and has listed clear violations of the rights of the AFF as a member invalid. This decision must be implemented by the AFF in order to return the AFF's Statutory structure within the framework of the law.
Unfortunately, the current leadership of the NOC has decided to ignore not only the decision of the most prestigious international sports court such as CAS, but also the fundamental rights of a member to request the inclusion of an issue on the agenda. This act destroys any illusion about the democratic functioning of the NOC and shows that its current leadership is following an isolated and authoritarian path, contrary to the Olympic spirit and the Olympic Charter.
This and other decisions of the NAC have been opposed by the AFF solely with the aim of restoring legal processes within this organization and this has been confirmed at the international level.
This will happen in the future as well, because our demands are only in the interest of the legality and democratization of an organization.
However, the leaders of the KOKSH have no interest in implementing the law and the decisions of the Courts and keep the members who are supported by public money, which is administered by the KOKSH, in a spirit of coercion and do not allow them to exercise their freedom of organization. Their only concern is to use their time in office to deepen the illegalities that enable them to exercise certain offices to the detriment of the interests of the sports environment.
There can be no meaning in participating in an assembly when members are not allowed to express themselves, are not given the opportunity to discuss issues of such an important nature, and are not guaranteed participation rights. In an organization where a member has fewer rights than an elected leader, then the very meaning of institutional democracy is undermined.
The Albanian Football Association will continue its legal and institutional battle to guarantee legality and restore the normal and regular functioning of the KOKSH. Just like 4 years ago, when we announced this decision, everything that is being done is illegal again, but for the leaders of the KOKSH, only staying in office matters.
We will always remain in support of the principles of transparency, justice, and respecting every member equally.
